Wyoming permit test questions people ask

What is on the Wyoming written driver test?

The automated test has three kinds of items: naming signs by shape, color or symbol; reading signals and pavement markings; and multiple-choice questions on traffic laws, safety rules, crash prevention and vehicle equipment, including seat belt laws. Neither the testing page nor the 2021 manual states the number of questions or the passing score.

Tests are given only in English. An interpreter may assist on non-commercial written tests, applicants who struggle with reading can listen to the questions by phone, and after a failure the same test may be taken twice in one day.

How old do you have to be for a Wyoming learner's permit?

Fifteen for a regular learner’s permit, which is also issued to older beginners. At 14 or 15, a teen who lives or works more than 5 miles away from school or a job, or faces another extreme inconvenience, can apply for a restricted hardship permit approved by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Full driving privileges come at 17, or at 16½ after an approved driver education course and six months on an intermediate license.

What are the rules for Wyoming learner and intermediate permits?

With a learner’s permit, the front passenger must be over 18 and licensed for the vehicle you are driving. The permit lasts a year, can be renewed, and must be held at least 10 days before the next step.

At 16, after 50 hours behind the wheel with 10 at night and a skills test, teens move to an intermediate permit. It allows one non-family passenger under 18, requires belts for everyone and limits driving to 5 a.m.–11 p.m. unless an exception form applies; breaking those rules means a 30-day suspension.
