Indiana permit test questions people ask

What is on the Indiana permit knowledge exam?

It is a computer-based, multiple-choice exam on Indiana traffic law, defensive driving and road signs, built from the Indiana Driver’s Manual. The BMV pages read for this guide do not state the number of questions or the passing score, so none is quoted here.

Walk-ins are fine unless you need the exam read aloud; just arrive 30 minutes before the branch closes. A failed attempt can be retaken the next business day.

What limits apply to an Indiana probationary license?

For the first 180 days: no passengers unless a qualifying adult sits in front (siblings, children and a spouse are exempt), and no driving from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. After that, drivers under 18 follow later curfews that change on weekends.

The license stays probationary until age 21, and drivers of every age must not use a phone to text or email while moving unless it is hands-free or a 911 call.
