Free Georgia practice test: 10 questions

OneTryPass wrote these questions from the Georgia DDS Driver's Manual 2023-2024. Pick an answer to see if you got it; each explanation names the part of the handbook it comes from.

  1. Getting your permit

Question 1. How long must a Georgia teen hold a Class CP instructional permit before applying for a Class D provisional license?

    Show answer

Answer: C. One year and one day

Georgia teens can apply for a Class D license at 16, after holding a valid instructional permit for one year and one day. A 17-year-old with proof of military enlistment is exempt from that wait.

  2. Getting your permit

Question 2. A 17-year-old with a Georgia Class D license finishes a work shift at 12:30 a.m. May the teen drive home?

    Show answer

Answer: A. No. Class D drivers may not drive from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., with no exceptions

The Class D curfew runs from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., and the manual says there are no exceptions, so a late work shift does not change the rule.

  3. Getting your permit

Question 3. During the first six months with a Georgia Class D license, who may ride with the driver?

    Show answer

Answer: A. Only immediate family members

For the first six months only immediate family may ride along, which includes parents, step-parents, grandparents, siblings, children and anyone living at the driver's home. In the second six months one non-family passenger under 21 is allowed; after that, three.

  4. Alcohol and drugs

Question 4. At what blood alcohol level is a 20-year-old driver considered under the influence in Georgia?

    Show answer

Answer: B. 0.02 grams or more

Georgia treats a driver under 21 as under the influence at 0.02 grams or more of alcohol in the blood; at 21 and older the line is 0.08 grams. Penalties can include fines up to $1,000, up to 12 months in jail and a suspended license.

  5. Speed and following distance

Question 5. Georgia's Super Speeder fee applies to a driver convicted of going how fast on a two-lane road?

    Show answer

Answer: C. 75 mph or more

A conviction for 75 mph or more on a two-lane road, or 85 mph or more on any road, adds a $200 state Super Speeder fee to local fines. Missing the payment deadline leads to a license suspension and a $50 reinstatement fee.

  6. Speed and following distance

Question 6. Unless a sign shows otherwise, what is the maximum speed on an unpaved county road in Georgia?

    Show answer

    Answer: B. 35 mph

Georgia's general limits are 30 mph in urban or residential districts, 35 mph on unpaved county roads, 65 mph on urban interstates and multi-lane divided highways, 70 mph on rural interstates and 55 mph everywhere else.

    Show answer

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 35 mph

If a lane change is not possible, slow to at least 10 mph below the posted limit or to 25 mph, whichever is higher, and keep at least 3 feet from the bicycle. On a 45 mph road that means 35 mph or less.

  9. Right of way

Question 9. A school bus stops to load children on a four-lane road with no median. Who must stop?

    Show answer

Answer: B. All traffic in both directions

Under Georgia's school bus law, all traffic from both directions stops on a four-lane road without a median. Only a divided highway with a median lets oncoming traffic keep going.

    Show answer

    Answer: B. 200 feet

Lower your high beams within 200 feet of a vehicle you are following and within 500 feet of an oncoming one. Georgia requires headlights from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise and whenever it rains.

Georgia permit test questions people ask

How many questions are on the Georgia permit test, and what score passes?

Georgia splits the knowledge exam in two: a Road Signs test and a Road Rules test. Each needs at least 15 correct answers out of 20, so a perfect signs score cannot rescue a weak rules score.

Testing is walk-in at DDS Customer Service Centers, with no appointment, as long as you are at the computer 30 minutes before closing. Both parts are offered in 26 languages.

What are the rules for a Georgia Class CP permit and Class D license?

With a CP, a Class C–licensed driver 21 or older sits beside you, ready to take control. To move up to Class D, teens hold the permit 12 months and one day, finish Joshua’s Law driver education and log 40 supervised hours, 6 after dark.

A Class D license bars driving from midnight to 5 a.m., with no exceptions. Only immediate family may ride along for the first six months, then one non-family passenger under 21, and three after the first year.
