  3. Getting your permit

Question 3. How long must a Hawaii teen hold an instruction permit before applying for a provisional license?

  4. Sharing the road

Question 4. What can it cost you to break Hawaii’s law on stopping for a school bus with flashing red lamps?

    Show answer

    Answer: D. $1,000

Hawaii permit test questions people ask

How many questions are on the Hawaii permit test?

The written test for a Hawaii learner’s permit has 30 multiple-choice questions drawn from the Hawaii Driver’s Manual. It sits alongside a vision check and a test on recognizing traffic control devices.

Honolulu lets applicants take it online from home in English or Spanish, with a one-hour limit and a webcam watching. The county pages do not publish a passing score, so OneTryPass does not quote one.

What are the rules for a Hawaii permit and provisional license?

A permit holder drives only with a licensed adult 21 or older beside them, and between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. that adult must be a parent or guardian. After 180 days, at 16 or older and with driver education finished, the teen can road-test for a provisional license.

The provisional license allows one passenger under 18 from outside the household and limits late-night driving. A first violation costs a three-month suspension, and the full license comes at 17 after six months.
