Alabama permit test questions people ask

What is on the Alabama learner license test, and what does it cost?

The written exam covers Alabama traffic laws, road signs and rules of safe driving, all taken from the Alabama Driver Manual. Each attempt costs $5, paid in cash or by money order.

ALEA gives the exam in English and eleven other languages, and an oral version runs on its automated testing equipment. ALEA does not publish the number of questions or the passing score, so OneTryPass leaves both out.

How do the three stages of Alabama’s graduated license work?

Stage I is supervised driving from age 15. Stage II starts at 16, after at least six months in Stage I for anyone under 18, plus a road skills exam and a record of 50 practice hours or an approved driver education course.

Stage II drivers stay off the road from midnight to 6 a.m. unless an exception applies, carry no more than one passenger outside the family and put handheld devices away. Stage III, the regular license, opens at 17 after six months in Stage II.
